Did you know 2.0 - Great Video About Technology's Upcoming Impact on Education
Check out this amazing video about how technology will affect education. Even though it is a little afield from a direct educational law topic, I showed this video in my Advanced Educational Law class the other day as part of my future directions lecture and the students (K-12 principals) were just in shock. So, I thought it was worth sharing.

Also, a new version has been published, Did You Know III. I don't like it as much as I liked 2.0, but it is still good. It has a little more about blogs and wikis and podcasts and other technology content and it directly addresses education a little more.

Finally, the people that put this video (edit: the first video only) together and are responsible for starting this important discussion are Karl Fisch and Scott McLeod (of At the Schoolhouse Gate fame). Anyway, here is a link to their wiki on the presentation and how you can get more information and engage in more discussion about education technology issues: ShiftHappens.
Anyway, enjoy. I know I did.

Just to clarify: the Did You Know? III version that you link to was made by someone else. It's one of several variations of Did You Know? 1.0 that was made earlier this year and is not a product of myself and Karl. Thanks!
The classes reactions were priceless. Since the Ed.D. cohort I was teaching in does not have a technology specific class, I wanted to make sure they saw a little of what is going on. Since we talk about Myspace, blogs, etc. in the search & off-campus parts of the class, it was not too much of a stretch. Anyway, I wanted to let you know that I did have some current principals that wanted to deny that the whole thing will have any implications for education (shocking, I know). Their sentiment was that things have always changed and education has always been fine and able to cope. Obviously, I tried to dispel that notion, but it might have been helpful if there were some more facts in the video that tied it directly to schools. For instance, if you would have had the number of schools engaging in blogging or podcasting or online learning technologies, that would have forced these principals to consider their own practice. Anyway, it is just a suggestion if you ever do anything like this again. I was very pleased with the video and its usefulness in class and I am sure I will use it again in the future.
